Homemade Frozen Dog Treats for Pet Appreciation Week

A hand holds a frozen paw-shaped treat between thumb and forefinger in front of a very attentive Lancashire Heeler.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.

—Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Sonnet 43, excerpt

June is the month for Pet Appreciation Week.  We should remember we are the whole world to our pets.  They wait for us all day to come home from work, shopping, or errands. They wait for any chance to spend time with us. Never take them for granted. In my opinion, our pets are one of the best things in life.

How about a cool treat for the hot summer weather to show them how much we care?  For example, pureed watermelon mixed with organic plain yogurt and frozen in cute doggie-themed shapes would be much appreciated on a hot summer day.

Let your imagination guide you to making the best frozen-treats for your pals, or use our Treat-o-Matic to generate ideas (see below). Experiment with this mix-and-match set-up. You can add your own items to the list but please check to be sure the items are safe for your dog.

Here’s a quick reminder list of things that dogs should never eat (in treats or otherwise). Also, be mindful of your dog’s allergies. Check with your vet before introducing new human foods to your dog.
